What is fascial manipulation?
Fascial manipulation is a hands-on treatment method developed by Italian physiotherapist Luigi Stecco and refined through decades of anatomical research. It involves identifying and treating densifications in the deep fascia — the connective tissue network that surrounds and connects muscles, tendons, and joints throughout the body. What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment (also called spinal manipulation) is a controlled, directed force applied to a specific joint — most commonly in the spine — to restore normal movement and reduce pain. The audible “click” that sometimes accompanies an adjustment is thought to be gas releasing from the joint fluid, not bones cracking. The evidence for manipulation covers not just local joint mechanics, but also neurophysiological effects — changes in pain processing, muscle tone, and the autonomic nervous system.
